What is Reiki
Reiki is a gentle and restorative Japanese healing modality. The Reiki practitioner channels universal life force energy into the client by lightly touching or placing hands over the client.
The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words: Rei which means “God’s Wisdom or the Higher Power” and Ki which is “life force energy.” So Reiki is actually “spiritually guided life force energy.”
One of the basic ideas held by those who practice Reiki is that this vital energy can be channeled to activate and support the body’s natural ability to heal itself.
How does Reiki work?
Reiki is a gentle, natural treatment that powerfully transmits unlimited healing energy to the client. Reiki releases energetic blockages, tension, and toxins from the body and is deeply restorative. It looks a lot like massage or acupuncture but it’s not the same. Reiki uses energy, which not only affects the muscles; it deeply penetrates every cell of the body and activates the body’s own power to relax and heal from within.
Reiki is completely safe and has no known negative side effects. Due to the supportive nature of Reiki, it is a wonderful complement to anything the client is already choosing as part of his/her self care regimen. Rather than tackling symptoms of pain or injury, Reiki addresses the root causes. Once the root cause of the issue is resolved, the body eliminates the effects of the imbalance and thus heals the body and mind naturally.
From a scientific point of view, Reiki produces results on an electromagnetic level. According to recent research, it appears Reiki acts to electromagnetically ‘jump-start’ the body’s own healing process by producing changes in vibrational frequency that, in turn, stimulate physical changes in the body.
What is a Reiki session like?
Everyone experiences Reiki differently. This is because the healing energy intuitively travels to where the individual needs it most. Clients may experience a vibrational charge throughout certain parts of your body, an emotional release, a deep rest or nap, images, messages, or sounds. Whatever happens during your Reiki session is exactly what is needed in the moment. Reiki treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind, and spirit creating many beneficial effects that include stress relief, mental clarity, relaxation and feelings of peace, security and wellbeing. Many have reported miraculous results.
During the session, the client is fully clothed and sits comfortably on a massage table with a pillow under the knees to avoid undue stress on the lower back.
John plays soft, relaxing music to create a chill environment. John places his hands over strategic body positions to direct the flow of energy to the chakras and associated organ and endocrine systems of the body.
Reiki can be hands on or hands off. John usually places his hands about 2-3 inches off the body, so no touch is required in order for him to do Reiki.
A regular Reiki session lasts for about 45 minutes to an hour. John can do it in less time as well, if there are time constraints.
During the relaxing session, the client closes his/her eyes and can either take a nap or focus on themselves, going deep within, and take a break from daily stress and tension—like a deep meditation. Falling asleep or entering a deep meditative state of mind is a normal response to receiving Reiki, and the body can go into a restorative mode.
Once the session is complete, the client takes a few minutes to integrate and absorb the work before sitting up. It is common to experience a deep sense of peace and relaxation followed by a feeling of being energized. At least an hour of free time is recommended following the appointment to allow for a gradual re-entry to the world. It is advised to drink lots of water following the session so any toxins can be released.
What is Distant Reiki?
Reiki can also be done at a distance, meaning John and his clients do not have to meet in person to gain the same positive outcomes.
For distance healing sessions, John will schedule a time when his client can be in a quiet and safe space so that they can relax and reach a meditative state.
John and his client will talk on the phone via Face Time for approximately 10 minutes to discuss goals, needs, and intentions. At this point, the client can either hang up or stay on the phone with John as he sends distance Reiki. During that time, the client can sit quietly and relax.
At the end of the session, John will call his client again and they will discuss and reflect on the healing that took place during our session together and share any visions he received while working on his client. His clients frequently receive messages, images, answers, and deep relaxation during these sessions.

Does Reiki have anything to do with religion?
While Reiki is spiritual in nature, it is not a religion. It has no dogma, and there is nothing you must believe in order to learn and use Reiki. In fact, Reiki is not dependent on belief at all and will work whether you believe in it or not. Because Reiki comes from God, many people find that using Reiki puts them more in touch with the experience of their religion rather than having only an intellectual concept of it.
